The Tanners’ Gate (Hebrew: Sha’ar HaBurskai) is a gate in the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. Next to the Dung Gate is a new pedestrian gate called Tanners’ Gate. It’s actually an old medieval gate which was uncovered during excavations in the 1980s. During the 1990s and the millennial year, we had so much traffic entering and exiting the city from the Dung Gate, the municipality decided to restore the medieval gate for pilgrims. This gate is not yet well-known. In Hebrew it’s called Sha’ar HaBurskai, which was apparently its name during the Crusader period when it must have been an industrial area for tanners. The cattle market was concentrated on the southeastern corner of the city, as were the allied professions of butchers and tanners. Hence the name of the nearby Tanners’ Gate. Israeli archaeologists have reopened the 13th century Tanners’ Gate, near the Dung Gate. It has been closed for about 600 years. The magnificent walls of Jerusalem's Old City were built by the Ottoman Empire under the direct supervision of Sultan Suleiman in 1542. The walls stretch for approximately 4.5 kilometres (2.8 miles) and rise to a height of 5–15 metres (16–49 feet), with a thickness of 3 metres (10 feet). Altogether, the Old City walls contain 43 surveillance towers and 12 gates, eight of which are presently open.

In May 2018 I was for the first time in Israel. Just started with geocaching, the earthcache Western Wall was the first. But then I was not able to find more due to a tight schema.
It was planned to travel again to Israel in fall 2020, due to covid-19 it became fall 2022.
With a group of our church we traveled "in the footsteps of Jesus" through The Holy Land and where possible I tried to find some caches.
We traveled from Ben Gurion to Jaffo, Caesarea, Nahsholim, Karmel, Nazareth, Bet She'an, Ein Harod, north of Lake Galilea, neighborhood of Jericho, Qumran, Ein Gedi with the Dead Sea, Almog,Jeruzalem, Bethlehem, Abu Gosh, Emmaus and back to Ben Gurion.
We saw a lot of beautiful and interesting places.
Not all searched caches where found and some needed maintenance.
This day we had a day of rest. Together with my daughter we did a walk around the walls to search the Gate-caches.
Should we really climb over the fences with a lot of people walking by and police in the neighborhood? Well we dared. After some search the cache was found and we safely followed our way to the next cache.2022-10-29T19:00:00ZFound itdzidziitisTFTC

Then we wall abating the clock around the wall to find the remain gates caches. We find all but one. When finished with those caches, we still have some time before departing to Tel Aviv. So we decide to give the D5 multi Independence Park a try. All answers for t ghee different stages are not that difficult as and quickly we have the final coordinates. When we arrive there they place is consistent with the hint. After some close observation we find rhee nice little green nano.
Thanks to all cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches. 2022-10-13T17:56:14ZFound itTiLi_TeamFinally, we are here in this holly place. It was an amazing experience all the trip from Jerusalem to here. We spend a hole day here but wasn't enough. Not at all! So, we decided to come back tomorrow. It's our very first vist in Israel and this place is the best one !
TFTC and greetings from Romania!2022-10-11T19:00:00ZWrite notehava_nesinDidn't dare climb over the fence with so many muggles and security forces around. I think that's not the best location for a cache :(2022-09-29T19:00:00ZFound itDokorWhoMy third day in Jerusalem. Today it was walking and waiting. I've been walking for 20 km all day and waited at the tomb of Jesus, at the Western Wall and at the entrance to the Temple Mount. But I endured and visited the three of the most holy places on Earth for Christians, Moslems and Jews. That was quite awe-inspiring, to say the least.
My walk to me to the Northern Rampant first. Then, at the Lion's Gate, I joined a Bar Mitzvag procession to the Western Wall. I then peregrined to the tomb of Jesus and waited in line to see the famous empty tomb. Afterwards a hike back to the entrance to the Temple Mount, where I queued another 15 minutes. After visiting the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Temple Mount (from afar), I wanted to take a break, but was told to get up as they were closing.
I took my time and exited Jerusalem via New Gate.
All in all, a satisfying and fulfilled day.
The cache:
This one took me quite a bit of time. For one thing, there were hundreds of party people, making noise, music, sing and ballooning. Bar Mitzvah live! Secondly, there was a fence. So one can walk on the path towards the wall and then the fence is finished and you can easily (and legally) climb onto the stone structures - which is actually quite nice. Super Photo spot for the festivities below and - yes, a cache! Thanks for this one. Probably the most dramatic one today!2022-09-11T19:00:00ZFound itHuckle Shucks#3339. Found alone.
TFTC.2022-09-05T19:00:00ZFound itzigdavidAfter walking in the old city mainly in the Jewish quarter and a little in the Christian quarter, and seeing the Western Wall, I left the old city through this gate and returned to the new city in the west of the city.
Outside the gate a lot of security forces and a large traffic of people, however there is still no problem finding the treasure, just sit on the tube to see that there is no one in the area and take it out, it was easy to find.
I noticed that towards sunset and after it there is a lot of bus traffic to the Western Wall and the City of David so that maybe these are a little less good times to come and find the treasure.
Thank you for the treasure in one of the gates of Jerusalem, I enjoyed walking in the city and getting to know it on foot in some of the neighborhoods of the city of Jerusalem.2022-09-01T19:00:00ZFound itursus69Found this cache together with Hobo22.
The Zion Gate (Hebrew: Sha'ar Tzion, Arabic: Bab Al-Nabi Da'oud) is a gate in the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem. The gate is built in a tilted way with a very sharp angle for the purpose of stopping any enemy attack on it (just like Damascus Gate and Jaffa Gate). It was built for Suleiman the Magnificent in 1540 (947 according to Islam dates). A stone plate in the gate praises the builder, Sultan Suleiman Iben Salim. The gate was opened only during daytime, and was protected by guards. Due to its proximity to the Jewish quarter, the keys to the gate were also trusted to a Jewish member of the community. Located in the south of the Old City, facing Mount Zion and Hebron, the Zion Gate leads into the Armenian and Jewish Quarters. Zion Gate is also known as David's Gate (Arabic: Bab el-Daoud?; Hebrew: Sha'ar David), because the tomb of King David is believed to be on Mt. Zion. The magnificent walls of Jerusalem's Old City were built by the Ottoman Empire under the direct supervision of Sultan Suleiman in 1542.
This cache is part of the Jerusalem’s Gates Series. The gate is situated near the southeast corner of the old city, southwest of the Temple Mount. The gate is the closest to the Western Wall and is a main passage for vehicles. It was originally much smaller, but was enlarged in 1952, after the Old City came under Jordanian control in 1948. After its capture by Israel in 1967, the gate had been renovated. Directly behind the gate lies the entrance to the Western Wall compound. At night, Egged city buses pass through the gate to the Western Wall bus stop which lies just behind the gate; during the day, the buses stop on the road outside of the gate, because the increased number of buses cluttered up the bus stop inside the Old City walls. This series is in memory of somloci, who set up the original, but now archived, "Jerusalem's Gates" series (GC1XRRQ, GC1XRRN, GC1XRRM, GC1XRRK, GC1XRRJ, GC1XRRH, GC1XRRG, GC1XRRF, GC1XRRE).
